I purchased this drill as a gift for one of my subs. From what I personally observed I believe this is a well made heavy duty drill, however I did not actually use the drill. My sub says it's the most powerful 1/2" drill he has ever used and with a good bit he is able to drill 5/8" holes through 7" PSL's with ease. The drill powers through and doesn't bog down or overheat. Like any drill, if you don't use a sharp bit, you are just wasting time and exposing yourself to injury. Most people think that the old PC 310 is the best one, but you can't get any bases for it anymore. You will also need the "arbor" that will fit your drill. Typically a SDS max for Hilti drills. Then you will also need another bit to use as the arbor. You can rotate the depth adjustment while you're planing and get pretty good tapered boards. It works pretty good. Ever need a piece that's 3" wide at one end and 2 3/4" wide at the other? You guys that work on old houses know what I mean. I'm sure this is in the manuals list if things not to do....like don't use the planer in the bathtub.
